BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Halibut fishing is a long-standing tradition in Northern Norway, and has ever since the
Stone Age been an important source of food for the locals. You’ll find
petroglyphs in Tromsø that’s over 10 000 years old and contains painting
of fishermen, fishing boats and varied species of fish.

Tromsø is situated at approximately 70 degrees north and because of this it should
normally have a cold climate with icy fjords most of the year, but fortunately
that’s not the case.

The Gulf Stream brings a temperate water all the way from the Mexico Gulf and run
upwards the Norwegian coastline. During the winter months the temperature in
the sea is mostly around 4 degrees Celsius.

There’s open water all year along the coastline, and there’s only a few fjord areas
during the winter months where you’ll find frozen water created by the
freshwater running out from the rivers.

The halibut can grow up to more than 3 meters long and can way up to 350 kilograms, and several of the biggest halibuts ever caught, was caught in this area.

Welcome onboard the M/V BigFisher II, our 14,75 meter Striker sport fishing boat. Captain Morten, an experienced angler when it comes to cod, halibut and other species, will use his local knowledge to bring you to the best spots for fishing in the

area. Halibut fishing is quite special and is suited for the most enthusiastic fishermen, who has the necessary patience and self-discipline which is required at this type of fishing.

We offer both 1. day trips and 2. day trips with accommodation onboard the M/V “BigFisher II”, which has two twin-bed cabins.

On 2-days trips we recommend groups of 4 people – this to
give you the best comfort both for the stay and fishing experience.

We do also have smaller boats for rental, and can assist you with AIR BnB and hotel accommodation ,
cars rental, kayaks, fishing equipment and much more.
